Manhattan, 6 out of 10
Arrived in a martini glass rather than a coupe. The two cherries were on a pick but “already sunken,” rather than laid across the rim. The glass had a fine chill. The drink was light on the bite.
Shrimp Cocktail, 8 out of 10
Four good-sized shrimp; great snap. There was cocktail sauce and a mystery yellow sauce. A side of horseradish would have been nice for adjusting the strength.
Filet Mignon, 26 out of 30
The center-cut filet had very little crust and little seasoning. It was cooked to the medium rare I ordered, there was no fat, and it was “exceptionally” tender.
Creamed Spinach, 8 out of 10
The creamed spinach had a good consistency, texture, and taste. I wouldn’t have known it contained bacon if the server hadn’t mentioned it.
New York Cheesecake, 3 out of 5
While the graham crust was on the bottom only, it had very good texture, density and taste. The cheesecake itself had an odd “hibiscus” flavor and “wavy” shape; the texture was nice and firm.
The Room, 5 out of 10
Huge windows next to a mostly large, open air room; the acoustics weren’t great. The bar area was visible from the dining area and its TV was a bit of a distraction. More dimness would have been nice.
Service, 9 out of 10
Service was very good. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and expedient. No wait felt too long. Multiple servers brought the food at once, and everything came as ordered.
Extras, 4 out of 5
Glazed dinner buns arrived warm and soft, served monkey bread style. They had a sprinkle of salt and something sweet; satisfying, suitably substantial, and well balanced. The hot towels provided mid-way through the meal was unexpected and welcome.
Value, 7 out of 10
The filet was $76, the Manhattan $24, the creamed spinach $18, the shrimp cocktail $31 and the cheesecake $17. That’s $166 before tax for the order. Pricey, but all things considered, it felt like decent value.
