Terms of Use

Last updated July 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Steakhouses.nyc ("we", "us", the "Site") governing your use of https://steakhouses.nyc and everything on it. By using the Site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Site.

1. What this Site is

The Site publishes reviews of steakhouses in New York City. The same five items are ordered at every restaurant and scored on the same scale. It is a personal project, not a publication, a guide, a certification, or a rating agency, and it makes no claim to completeness.

2. Eligibility

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 16, to use the Site or subscribe to the newsletter.

3. The reviews are opinion

Every score and every word of every review is one person's subjective opinion, formed on one visit, on one night, ordering the same five things. A kitchen has good nights and bad ones, staff change, and a score records the night that was had — not a claim about every night, and not a statement of objective fact about any restaurant or any person who works there.

Scores are relative to this Site's own rubric and to the other restaurants on it. They are not a health, safety, hygiene or food-safety assessment, and nothing here should be read as one. Prices, addresses, opening details and menus were right when written and go out of date; check with the restaurant before relying on any of it.

4. Independence

Every meal is paid for in full. Nothing is comped. No restaurant is told a review is coming, and reservations are made under a normal name. There are no sponsorships, affiliate links, paid placements or advertising anywhere on the Site. No restaurant can buy a score, remove one, alter one, or change where it sits on the list. Nobody has ever paid to appear here and nobody ever will.

5. Corrections and restaurant responses

If something here is factually wrong — a closed restaurant, a wrong address, a misremembered price, a misattributed dish — it gets fixed. Say what is wrong and what is correct on the contact page. Corrections to facts are always welcome and we would rather have them.

Disagreements about a score are welcome too, and will be read. But a score is an opinion honestly held, and it stays. Restaurants are welcome to publish a response of their own; we will not remove a review because a subject dislikes it.

6. What belongs to whom

The writing, the photographs, the illustrations, the scoring rubric and the design of the Site are ours and are protected by copyright. The name "Steakhouses.nyc" and the Site's logo are our marks.

You may: read the Site, print pages for your own use, and quote a reasonable extract — a line or two — with clear attribution and a link back.

You may not, without asking first:

  • Republish a review in whole or substantial part, anywhere.
  • Use the photographs or the illustrations elsewhere, including in restaurant marketing.
  • Scrape, crawl, harvest or bulk-download the Site, or use automated means to extract its content, beyond ordinary search engine indexing.
  • Use the content to train, fine-tune or ground a machine learning model or generative AI system.
  • Frame the Site, or present its content as your own or as endorsed by you.
  • Quote a score in advertising, on premises, or on a menu, as if it were an award.
  • Interfere with the Site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or attempt to gain access to any part of it that is not public.

Restaurant names, logos and marks belong to the restaurants. They appear here to identify the places being written about, which is nominative fair use and implies no affiliation with or endorsement by them.

7. What you send us

If you send us a correction, a tip, a photograph or any other material, you confirm it is yours to send and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it on the Site, including to correct or update a review. We are not obliged to use it, to credit you, or to keep it confidential. Do not send us anything you consider secret.

8. The newsletter

Subscribing means asking us to email you reviews. We will not use your address for anything else and will not pass it to anyone. Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe. What we do with the address is set out in the Privacy Policy.

9. Copyright complaints

If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, tell us through the contact page, with: identification of the work; where the material is on the Site; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act; and your signature. We will respond promptly, and we remove infringing material.

10. Other sites

The Site links to restaurants and other sites. We do not control them, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices.

11. Availability

The Site is provided as it is, and as available. We may change it, restructure it, or stop publishing at any time, without notice. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content will remain at the same address.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site and everything on it are provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Your decisions about where to eat, what to spend, and whom to believe are yours.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Site or reliance on anything published here. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you, and nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the Site or your breach of these terms.

15. If there is a dispute

Please write to us first. Nearly everything — a factual error, a misunderstanding about what a score means — is settled by an email, and we would like the chance to settle it that way.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be brought in the state or federal courts sitting in New York County, New York, and you and we consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country.

16. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them if the Site changes hands. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the Site.

17. Changes

We may revise these terms. The date at the top moves when we do, and continuing to use the Site after that means accepting the revised version.
